The following PowerPoint goes through our Classroom Library Diversity Project. I've made a point to instruct students about what advocacy is, and how they can be advocates for change! One direct injustice we found as a class, was the diversity of main characters or protagonists in our class room library novels! We noticed a disproportionate about of characters being only caucasian males. I was initially inspired by Teaching for Change's website, and an article detailing a teacher and class doing this project! There are a couple student samples, but please feel free to ask your child to share theres! We printed published final drafts, and mailed them to Scholastic, but students have their own as well! |
