We had Career Day this last Wednesday. Each 5th grade teacher hosted a guest to share about their education, work, and overall career! Our class hosted Julie Cramer, who is a PHD Chemist at University of Hawaii in Manoa! She had a presentation along with live demonstrations!
April is National Poetry Month and our students have been immersed in a poetry unit of study. They have examined the rhythm and structure of poetry as well as poetic devices and figurative language (alliteration, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, personification, idioms, similes & metaphors). Throughout their learning, students have been given time to write their own creative poems. Thank you to all the families and students who attended our Poetry Cafe! It was so much fun to hear students read aloud poems to family members and class!
We integrated Art with Math and Poetry! Students created a coordinate plan, designed a "Polygon Character", and wrote a poem about their Character! This is one of my favorite projects because students artistic and creative side come out!
Students got to pick between bush beans, carrots, or flowers! They have their own pot that they colored, and have taken home to monitor, observe, take care of, and help grow! We used the rest of the seeds to re-plant in our garden!
